How often do the hearts of mamas get torn in two?
Letting go of your child's bike sans training wheels for the first time, but wanting to chase after it the entire time.
Dropping off your child a preschool and looking forward to the break even though you really just want to keep your child home with you, safe in your arms.
Finally breaking the co-sleeping habit with your baby as you fall asleep in your room listening to the monitor all night long as your baby sleeps in a crib down the hall.
These moments halve our hearts.
Our children pull on the strings of our hearts, because that's what being a parent is all about.

It was a crazy night. My oldest woke up from a bad dream and crawled in bed with me at 2:30a.m. My youngest screamed at 3:45a.m. for me, because she was ready to start her day.
By 3:50 I was snuggled in between my two girls in my bed.
Half of my heart loved the warmth of their bodies, the sound of their breathing out of sync with one another.
But the other half of me (the pregnant half) wanted the bed all to myself. By some miracle I dozed for an hour before everyone woke up, ready to go downstairs and start the day.
What are the halves of your heart? Do your children pull on your heartstrings all day long?
